Why are they even playing football?

Edinburg High School football player Emmanuel Duron has been charged with assault following his attack on a referee after being ejected during Thursday’s game against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in Edinburg.

In the wake of the incident, school district officals decided Friday to remove Edinburg from the Class 6A state playoffs after the Bobcats had clinched a postseason berth by beating PSJA 35-21.

Footage from Thursday night depicts referee Fred Gracia announcing the ejection and Duron rushing onto the field to tackle the official. Videos of the incident promptly went viral on social media.

Duron was escorted out of Richard R. Flores Stadium by school district police officers. On Friday morning, he was charged with class A assault, with a cash surety bond of $10,000 set and later posted by Duron, The Monitor reported.

Gracia was evaluated for a potential shoulder injury and concussion-like symptoms. His daughter Iris tweeted early Friday that her father is "doin' alright."

HS football is huge in Texas. My old school just built a $70 million dollar stadium. For high school football. Even as they keep cutting funding for reduced cost lunches.

My wife sent me the October issue of Sports Illustrated. It had a big article on the damage ever Pop Warner football can do to kids. I think we will see the end of the high school game in the next twenty years. Would your wife let her son play?

We don't have any children but I wouldn't be for them playing, not sure about her. No sense fucking up your knees and back over hs sports.

Baseball is wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Soccer is popular among kids, and basketball is good in the winter. Teaching a child to swim is a life-long gift.

But I think we will soon see the end of American football.

You forgot head, everyone thinks those helmets save the head from damage. Helmets don't protect completely
