John Phillips moved to Laurel Canyon and played a role in spreading the “counterculture”. Phillips helped organize the Monterey Pop Festival and wrote the song San Francisco, which were instrumental in luring the disaffected to San Francisco to create the Haight-Ashbury and the 1967 Summer of Love.
