It's not really a rocket science, asphalt stores heat like batteries store power and then they unleash the damn heat all over making the surrounding environments hot as hell, most European cities have trees on the sides of the road to soak up the pollution from cars and soak up the suns heat a bit.
Maybe it just goes to show how backwards the damn Americans still are.
