What they've been doing for at least a decade now is make cars designed to be awful on purpose so people will be forced into the electric ones. They got rid of mini vans in the 2000s that had any meaningful gas milage and good design. The few that are out have the same stupid center console now and narrow windows like they want it so there's an excuse that 'Human drivers are baaaaaaaaaaaad!' then they can legitimately force the electric cars on us. They tried to force only the 'Obama' car to be the only car allowed on the road in 2010 and was narrowly blocked.

In our area there is a few of these 'Obama cars' you can see drive around and they look VERY uncomfortable. I actually saw one at Roth's last year and the owners let me look inside so yes they DO exist. Several cities had infrastructure up to measure how far you would drive with your existing gas cars and tax you if you drove more then 2 or was it 4 miles out? They never turned it on because it was blocked by Conservative judges. Portland Oregon has the infrastructure all ready in place but can't turn it on till given the A-okay.
