Lot to unpack here.

First: The ability for Facebook to print their own money and act as their own personal bank is huge. By "print" I mean Libra. Here are my concerns. Other websites start accepting it as a valid form of currency. If you use Libra it's cheaper than using USD or other currencies. To save money you transfer more of your money into Libra. Then one day you make a Facebook post saying something that the company doesn't like. They delete your account. All of your Libra money is gone. Nothing you can do to sue them.

They would essentially control their customers under threat of deletion. A lot of poor people will endure these new Psudo-Laws to maintain their Libra wallet because of the cheaper shopping options. These new laws won't be created by any democratically elected governing body, but instead will be created and enforced by a faceless corporation. Because right now there's nothing stopping them from "pretending" to be their own bank. Possible new law would prevent that. Nobody knows anything for sure.

Shit is straight out of a dystopian science fiction novel.

My 2nd point of worry I like to mention: The U.S. government making it's own crypto-currency to better track transactions. Yeah. Fuck that. I'd go back to the bartering system like a caveman before I'd ever fucking do that. If America permanently stops printing paper currency shit will go full 1984.

Lastly: The possibility of the U.S. government making the ownership of the Crypto-Currency "Bitcoin" illegal. Nah. Goes against one of America's core values "If I pay taxes, fuck off and let me keep the rest or else."

All of this is terrifyingly scary. In a world where minimum wage isn't enough to survive, the last thing we need is to have someone else telling us where we can keep it.
