Ok, maybe but problem: Slowing growth does not mean shrinking, and they are citing stats suggesting slowing growth only

They are making one key argument: Many countries have record high deaths accompanied by record low births

But your population can still grow like this. Births usually far outstrip deaths, you can have records and still have births > deaths. You have to show the deaths are more than the births, and not a single one of their statistics supports that case, they focus on isolated highs and lows only, and NEVER ONCE compare the births vs deaths in any country that they are citing the statistics of. Likely because the data would NOT support the conclusion they are making if they compared these figures directly. Where is the number of 1 billion even coming from? It is pulled out of thin air without referencing how this number was calculated, huge red flag

Phooey fact check rating: Pure speculation, misleading and incorrect application of statistics. The cited statistics are insufficient to support a theory of decreasing population, let alone 1 billion. It suggests slowing growth not shrinking, two very different things

This is some Q-Anon grade garbage OP, and seeing as you are spamming your own news site, I think you lack the acumen to distinguish statistically significant data inferences from unsupported speculation

Yeah, this would be more appropriately put under conspiracy.

I mean I could have been more tactful, and probably would have been if this was a real user, but every one of his posts is to the same site which is likely his, and he has made zero comments, so he isn't actually interacting with anyone here. This is basically Indian spam, albeit more topically relevant than most, so I don't feel too bad about it

Yep, you're probably right, it's a controlled opposition bot that sows confusion.

Or, you can look at migration vs immigration and draw conclusions from those numbers.

Yeah I have no idea if there is a good case to be made for the shrinking population theory, its possible there is, I'm not that familiar with the entirety of the data, but this is not a good case. This article makes the claim the population is shrinking and then attempts to support their theory by citing data that is totally inadequate for making any meaningful statistical inference. If you can account for 1 billion missing people using birth, death and immigration statistics, I am all ears
