Some hardline christians have similar prohibitions on depicting the human form. It's considered a form of idolatry by them. Just as in hardline Islamic societies any art that depicts a living thing is not allowed.

It is of course nonsense, as you'll find many examples of both Islamic and christian art depicting animals. And creating a depiction of an idol is hardly idolatry as it's not being worshiped or intended to be worshiped, such nuances are lost on the extremist.

My opinion it's a form of social terrorism, the upper class often appreciates art and by turning the common people against them you can seize power, in a similar vein to calling a horse a deer.
