Are you paying attention? Christianity wants to completely throw out the golden rule right now.

Christianity doesn't exist anymore. WTF are you talking about.

Judaism

What do you mean it doesn't exist anymore? It doesn't stop existing until there's no one left who remembers it.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

One might argue that it never existed.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Okay that's just insanity. We have records of it going back to at least the second century.

Scribblings of tribal peasants...The concept may have been present for several years, a couple of thousand at most in the Hundred thousand years of humans, but the reality is likely no more than the imaginings of a few poorly educated authoritarian men seeking to profit from the control of his fellow man through fear and manipulation.

You mean things like 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, 1 & 2 Peter, and Jude? Those are widely agreed to be forgeries. Even a lot of conservative theologians will admit that.

If somebody does not adhere to the values put forth by the messiah, can they be considered Christian? If they honestly try and fail? What if they just pay lip service and don't even try? What if they call themselves "Christian" because they were baptised but never had a loving moment in their entire life?

My point is, calling yourself "Christian" doesn't mean you are. I think being Christian means successfully adhering to the word and advice of the messiah. By that metric, the Christian religion has never existed. I might be one of the very few actual Christians ever, even though I am not religious at all.

In the end what does "being Christian" mean?

[–]Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Words mean whatever people understand them to mean. But I get what you're saying, and no one does seem to actually care for what Jesus said anymore, even "Christians", and sometimes especially them. But there are still a few so it's not extinct.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Not extinct, but not exactly widespread either. Especially if you go for the "seriously adhering to the Word" definition.

I would say it stops existing when almost all of the so-called "Christians" deviate from the Word of Christ.

We're at this point.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

That's always been so, and Christianity even says it would be.

[–]Alphix 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Well, no.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Jesus said blessed are those who are persecuted by the masses.

[–]Alphix 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well, yes.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So you say, "when almost all of the so-called 'Christians' deviate from the Word of Christ," but it turns out it's always been this way and the Word of Christ itself testifies that it would be.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes.
