I wonder if part of the appeal of transitioning is that once you have, cis people have to walk on eggshells around you rendering you (in this day and age) essentially bulletproof.

It toes the same line as Munchausen syndrome. It garners attention, sympathy, and generates a sense of power and control (suddenly everyone around you is morally obligated to accommodate you, but also, since you've framed yourself in many ways as a victim, it's also taboo to question your validity).
