I had three surprises with my DNA test:

1 - I'm white: I mean obviously if you saw me, but my dad's side of the family swore we were at least part Cherokee, along with a lot of German as my last name is German. I figured almost half German/half Irish with a smattering of other stuff.

2 - I thought I'd be more than half Irish as my mom was born and raised and my dad's side had some. Nope, only 42%.

3 - I'm way more Scottish than I anticipated - 35%

4 - I have some Welsh in me. Just a drop, but hey, I'll take it.

5 - Only 7% German. Really surprised at that.

Anyone know how those things break down? I'd be interested to see how this breaks down and why. For example, I got my kids to get DNA tests and my oldest son was 8% Welsh? His mom had none and my mom had none, and I only had 1%. How the heck?!

I know many of my ancestors, at least on one side of my family tree, surprisingly well.

When the Nazis ruled in Germany, you had to bring proof of ancestry to get into literally any position these Jewish dwarfs considered important. And then one of my (now: deceased, sadly) great-grandfathers put a lot of effort into de-obfuscating even more parts of this family tree of mine.

As far as I can understand, my ancestors were robber-barons when the dark-ages ended in Central-Europe. In today's Czech Republic and former north-eastern Bavaria (Franconia). I seemingly even have relatives in Pennsylvania that emigrated to US in the 19. Century. When the drought years just before the German revolution of 1848 forced so many people to search for alternatives.

But since nobody put effort into tracing these relatives of mine so far, I don't know their possible names now.

Maybe when I hit my sixties, I'll start investigating these relations more thoroughly again.

I think it went as far back as the Germanic tribes of the 5th century. My ancestors were forced out of central Europe and into Flanders and Normandy by them. Eventually migrating to the British Isles and then Canada and the U.S. between 1600 and 1900 AD.

I had a close relative who helped trace the family tree to 900 A.D. They were also able to trace even further back, but without names, by using migration records.

Fair point, but I don't plan on murdering anyone anyways. Yeah I've also seen the news pages of how they found serial killers using DNA tests of somebody related to the killer too.

Genetic diversity doesn't mean what you think it does. What are you even trying to say with that measurement? It is not an argument

Also you are not making sense. We cannot be a subset of Africans because we do not have their 2-19% archaic admixture. Do you understand that? Africans have mixed with a species 400-700k years old that we do not have in our genetics.
Did that happen after the Ice Age too? Lol get real.

This is why they have the most genetic diversity. There is more genetic diversity in sub Saharan Africa than the whole rest of the world. They even have their own blood groups down there.

You can't even use genetic diversity, as it is calculated currently, to measure races and you want to use it as some kind of "distance measurement", this is not how it works.

Chimps also have far more genetic variation than humans even though their are only thousands of them compared to billions of humans.

Chimps in neighbouring troops are often more distantly related than native humans in the old and new world.

And most of the human genetic variation which exists is in Africa. East Africans are more closely related to Europeans than they are to West Africans.

This is because most humans are descended from a small band of survivors who made it out of Africa after the last ice age.

If you're mainly European, then do not mix with other races and do not promote anti european ideologies like "we are all mixed and 99% alike in DNA". Europeans are different from the other races and it is okay to be white.

Maybe it's those people that came from central America? They are partially indigenous Americans after all. Many of them are Mestizo, Harnizo or Castizo (latter two look white, but still have American blood in them). I wouldn't be surprised if they identified as both Indigenous and White. But alas, I read the article and it doesn't have any mention of them.

While I agree with Europeans being from Europe, what I meant was people with Aboriginal European ancestry and not being a European in the sense of living there. Like Europeans colonised almost all of the world, so there'll be a lot of Americans with European ancestry, Africans with European ancestry, Asians with European ancestry, and Austronesians with European ancestry, because of that.

If your European heritage is mixed then it's mixed, nothing wrong with that.

Being European is not the same as being white. The British idea of being white is not the same as the Spanish idea of being white, racial categories are culturally specific.
