The Russ were literally a Scandinavia tribe. It means "rowers" because they used to row down the rivers to conquer the lands there. Kiev was a Scandinavian city, not set up by locals.

Arguably even Finland should be considered apart of the rest since they weren't nordic nor vikings. Their culture is vastly different, their language belongs to whole different non-hindo-european family (it is about as different from nordic languages as English is to Japanese) and they worshiped their own Suomenusko gods which was too a wholly different religion from Nordic Paganism. In fact the Finnish and Baltic tribes were one of the main victims of the Vikings throughout much of their history.

The slavics for their part are even more distinct from the Nordics. They live on a different landmass and they have vastly different languages, cultures and religions. Before being converted to Greek Orthodox Christianity they worshiped Perun and had their own unique slavic religion. Slavs NEVER worshiped nordic gods. The symbology and rites of the neo nazis in Ukraine are a complete modernist farse that has absolutely nothing with the tradition of their own people.

Both Ukrainians and Russians have some Scandinavia ancestors. That's a well known fact. Being far away doesn't stop that, Brits and Australians are onother sides of the world. Having a different language group doesn't stop that either, languages can be learnt.

The vikings didn't just get down to Kiev, they got down as far as Constantinople and North Africa.

I'm sorry if Google maps doesn't tell you that.

I'm rooting for her to grow on that front too. Give her time, she'll come around to accepting the historical facts you share also.

jet199: yes, there is some scandinavian DNA in these regions. But most Ukrainians and Russians aren't of Scandinavian origin. Just imagine 300 years from now people arguing that Norwegians are also of Negroid African descent because of the displacement in the early 21st century. That's sort of what you are doing here. The Scandinavian component of these nations isn't the original stock, which is why the culture, religion and language have nothing in common with those of Scandinavian origin.
