this is an old woman who in my opinion did more good than bad with her life

I think thats debatable

What do you think?

I think professors should be allowed to express opinions. There are some valid criticisms about horrendous acts on her watch, and even the way she protected pedo rapist Andrew.Would you still be mad if Biden died and she said this? Dr. Fauci? Stalin? Hitler? Emperor Palpatine? Where exactly do you draw the line and when does it become OK.

Social Media has washed away social niceties and replaced it with the dominance of the hot take, promoting outrage to the point where critique has given way to raw nastiness and hate.

I don't disagree that this is a problem in our society right now, but then again I would say this about Dr. Fauci and some other folks if they died, so I'm not gonna hold anyone else to a different standard

Personally I think her opinion is a bit extreme with regards to Queen Elizabeth, but I'm not exactly shedding any tears for her either

Interesting perspectives. Personally, I'm pretty much a free speech absolutist. I agree that this prof should have every right to speak her mind, just as I think the ol' nazis should be allowed to do the same, as long as you're not calling for physical harm toward a person. The more these people show their hand, the more we get to see what's inside their little brains. The challenge now, though, is to keep some thread of morals and decorum running through our broader society so we can recognize that calling your neighbour or whomever a nazi because you disagree with them is not going to be helpful.

Carnegie Mellon’s full statement — released Thursday — defended the professor’s free expression.

“We do not condone the offensive and objectionable messages posted by Uju Anya today on her personal social media account,” it read. “Free expression is core to the mission of higher education, however, the views she shared absolutely do not represent the values of the institution, nor the standards of discourse we seek to foster.”

I agree with their statement, however something tells me the response would have been different if it had been a white professor saying the same about Obama or Kamala Harris.

It would have, but I think saying this about Bill Clinton who is white would be just as criticized, and I'd point out that many white people did celebrate the death of Idi Amin, Saddam and Bin Laden. I think this blowback has more to do with wishing a painful death on someone from 'our' empire being the problem, rather than color of the leader or person wishing for their painful death

I think she needs cock. Then she'd not be so histrionic.

I think she's just trying to capitalize on "shock jock" racist views.

I mean, imagine if you were to invent society from scratch today. Would you pick a special family and say; "...and these people and their descendants will have all of the land, and hoard all of the wealth, and the peasants will be brainwashed into worshiping them, and they will live with a ridiculous amount of pomp and opulence, and the whole of the state will be built around the concept of servitude to them, and their inbred children will inherit the whole kingdom, etc..."? Monarchism always was just a massive grift and a scam in my eyes. Back in the old times people didn't know any better, and they would be killed for criticizing or 'revolting' against their monarchies anyway, but nowadays it's kinda of ridiculous that people still worship those figures.

And how are all those people who tried to redesign society from scratch doing?

Learn some reading comprehension fella; I'm using an hypothetical scenario to illustrate a point that shows how insane and irrational monarchism is. Also, have you ever read any history book at all? Literally every political system in the world was designed from scratch at some point, most of them in the last 500 years.

That's nonsense.

Most have developed through trial and error overtime.

Even revolutionary countries like France changed immensely from the first attempts to create the perfect society because it simply didn't work. They have a whole unelected house due to this. Saying they were designed from scratch in the last 500 year is BS, as if nothing changed since then. Millions of people died in the process of getting government just OK.

Constitutional Monarchy is kept in north west Europe because that has been proven to work while all the wonderful blue sky idealism has failed. These are the most successful and happiest countries in the world.

Most have developed through trial and error overtime.

People didn't reach at ideas like republicanism or democracy through accident after trying different things at random. They are founded on ideologies laid out by political philosophers like Aristotle, Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin. Hence why their foundational ideologies and principles remain the same.

Even revolutionary countries like France changed immensely from the first attempts to create the perfect society because it simply didn't work. They have a whole unelected house due to this.

And cars don't look exactly what mr. Ford was producing in 1914, hence by the same logic they were never designed from scratch.

Also, revolutionary nations are not a special case or an exception, they are the overwhelming rule. Almost every country in the world follows a system of government that was deliberately invented at some recent point. Including all of the most powerful ones such as USA, Germany, Russia and China.

Saying they were designed from scratch in the last 500 year is BS, as if nothing changed since then. Millions of people died in the process of getting government just OK.

Millions of people died because of power conflict, not to make government OK. Political systems in the world are a reflection of the underlying power dynamics between men, and the violent uprisings and wars throughout history reflect the struggle of different groups to reach power and install political systems that favor their own interests. Hence how you get a family cucking and brainwashing a whole nation into worshipping and serving them (A.K.A. monarchy).

I hate all queens, except my own. Elizabeth 2nd I hated even more when she had Diana assassinated for wanting to divorce the ugly trashcan she calls her son.

So unsurprisingly, I'm siding with the black gal and free speech for all. Like a good 'ol soldier.

I was under the impression you were German. Are you from Belgium?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I got a German citizenship. But I'm no "classical" German, with all these superfluous attributes mostly hallucinated for them.

Too far on the "left" side, so to say. My ancestry is mostly Czech.

My queen is my personal queen, you know ? The only women walking this planet, I'm able to put on a pedestal.

Ah, gotcha. Best kind of queen to have. ;)
