This is an attempt to make some sense of the conflict in Kashmir. I visited Kashmir some years ago before the fighting began there. Your first impression then would have been that it is a beautiful, peaceful part of India. After even a few days there you would notice that culturally and linguistically, Kashmir is identical to Pakistan that it adjoins. Over the years since I've been there, probably India has attempted to Indianize Kashmir as much as possible. I am not taking sides in the conflict but it is essentially about the Kashmiri people wanting to be a part of Pakistan but India wanting to hold on to its territory.

Of course, the major worry in this conflict is that both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers.
