A legit question.
Assets would be idea as they tend to retain their value relatively well compared to fiat. The problem is that the slave class is nowhere near financially strong enough to do that and so they live life myopically and satisfy immediate needs at the expense of future needs.
While it may not mean anything, I have successfully planted 24+ fruit trees where 6 of them have already produced fruit.
