CIA and Mossad (who is known to be backing Epstein, and using him to entrap others) basically overthrow governments for a living. To me it's no surprise they'd try their basic playbook in the US after they've tried it everywhere else.

This high-publicity low-justice Epstein thing is a great way to rile people up and create the public unrest to force a revolution (like the color revolutions) or a civil war (like the Rwandan genocide), but in multiple western countries simultaneously. Especially when combined with all the other divide-and-conquer propaganda. I just hope people are wise enough to avoid the traps, should that be the direction they try to take things. When those in power start to feel like they're losing control, they always resort to stunts like this.
