Yeah that bit surprised me too. I guess it's a matter of expectations? But maybe democracies actually are the worst in 2018... the system of democracy has been hijacked so thoroughly by big money and corporate interests, nation after nation. Maybe a strong centralized system could actually be a protection against that? Ugh I can't believe I just said that.

There's a big takeaway lesson here but I'm not sure exactly what it is.

I don't know what to make of this either. Yeah, maybe it is about expectations, where people in democracies have higher expectations so they're more likely to report being disillusioned. Or maybe "disillusioned" is a western democratic term that doesn't survey correctly.

Ugh I can't believe I just said that.

Hahhahah I can't either but it seems to be a natural conclusion if these stats are legit.

It's reminding me of one part in How To Start Your Own Country where dude decides that the citizenry will vote wrong on an issue and that he needs to mandate it, and decides that that is leadership. Damn I forget what issue it was, I binge watched all of them. I kept wanting to click away because of all of his acting and cheeky ness but I couldn't. They visited some interesting cross sections of society. It was cool to see Freetown Christiana or whatever it's called.

And the second ammendment folks were spot on and he had no good reason for banning guns.

Ha I'm glad you watched that show. It is pretty fascinating. I haven't watched the whole thing, but I wonder if he visited any US Native American nations. They each have their own legal system and everything.

It's been said that the best kind of a government is a benevolent dictatorship... but also that the worst is a malevolent dictatorship.
