At about 29:00 Max asks Erik about Sweden's neutrality and this was an interesting bit. He said that in the 1980s they went through something like a Swedish Russiagate with nonstop reporting on supposed incursions of Soviet subs into Swedish waters. As it turns out, there were no such incidents, but it had its effect: prior to this only about 25% of the population saw the Soviet Union as a threat but by the end this was up to 80% or more. From the way Erik describes it, the civil government of Sweden maintained the same attitude toward neutrality but the Swedish military had very close ties with the US. He said there is a theory that the 1986 murder of prime minister Olof Polme was because of his "aggressive" neutrality policy.
