Families are having fewer children. So you don't have the traditional large family practice of having the oldest take over the family business, having the smartest be the oldest's "brains behind the outfit", having the family idiot join the clergy, and letting the rest be soldiers.

Very amusing comment! There are many literary examples of my stereotype. I was thinking in particular of Kind Hearts and Coronets.
