One of the big reasons local politicians have told residents that the Las Vegas Grand Prix is a good deal for the city and worth the months of headaches and aggravation is because of the economic impact, which Formula 1 projects will be over $1.5 billion, which is over double the $600 million that is projected to be generated by the Super Bowl being played in Las Vegas in February. Those lofty F1 numbers, however, were based on the original prices and expected demand for tickets and hotel rooms this week that never materialized.

Much like booking an $18 hotel room only to get hit with $48.64 in resort fees and taxes upon checkout, not every “good deal” in Las Vegas ends up actually being good.

Often for these sporting and other business events, it's the local community that bears the biggest cost.
