Isn't he Hindu? Do they have an Armageddon cult too (besides Kali)?

Oh, may have found you some Hindu eschatology, although it's still presented as a rejuvenating destruction in the endless cycle of existence, and not a final end time.

Again, just a wikipedia article :

Kalki is described in the Puranas as the avatar who rejuvenates existence by ending the darkest and destructive period to remove adharma (unrighteousness) and ushering in the Satya Yuga, while riding a white horse with a fiery sword.

One of the things you learn studying ancient texts, or I did anyway, is that they were written over millennia and continued to be added to, modified, edited right up until the printing press and mass distribution made that impracticable.

The above was clearly borrowed from Revelations. Which is also ubiquitous in ancient texts, borrowing concepts and ideas and metaphors very liberally, wherever there is contact between civilizations. Some would say that's a defining trait of human civilization, which makes the whole 'cultural appropriation' thing pretty stupid. All they're doing is accusing someone of being human.

I thought the same. But Hinduism is famously syncretic.

However, the difference, as I've already talked about, is they incorporated it into their 'endless cycle' view of existence, rather than the Abrahamic teleological viewpoint.

No, I don't think they have an 'Armageddon cult', I think that's limited to the Abrahamic religions.

And Kali is different; yes, she's representative of death & destruction but as an eternal and necessary part of life. She's a Goddess of Creation as much as a Goddess of (creative) Destruction.

My feeling (but not informed opinion) is that the weird love affair of some Indians with Israel is simply and disappointingly based in shared hate and bigotry towards Islam and Muslims.

So you're saying nothing at all like that Indiana Jones movie, or the Brits' description of the Thuggee movement?

Don't get the Indiana Jones reference (I only saw the first one) but I did think of the Thuggee movement while writing that comment, as a counter-example.

However, looking just now at the Wikipedia article, it seems that the story of the nihilistic Thuggees (who supposedly worshipped Kali) may be largely a British Raj invention :

(It's only wikipedia but it does cite some references)

Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, the president of the United States made a speech in which he said: "As long as the United States stands — and we will stand forever — we will not let you ever be alone."

"The US will stand forever." That's what POTUS said. Unlike anything else in the universe, unlike everything that has ever existed or will exist, the US is eternal.

These people are nuts. Bonkers. Crazy. This is who we've got running things.

Pudd'nhead Biden: "The US will stand forever."

Percy Shelley, "Ozymandias", 1819 edition:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Anything to claw out of the low single digits, eh? Maybe he thinks he can get Mike Pence's End Timers.

It's like watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers in real life. Except, of course, they were always snatched, they just weren't always obvious about it.

At least this one always felt obviously bullshit. No surprise there.

Full text if you don't want to go on twitter :

Now is the moment for Israel to return to its founding premise: the Jewish State has an absolute right to exist. A Divine gift, gifted to a Divine nation, charged with a Divine purpose. Israel has an absolute and unequivocal right and responsibility to defend itself to the fullest, applying the only language its adversaries understand: the language of force.

And what would David Ben-Gurion say? Don’t depend on anyone else’s fleeting sympathies or permission to do it.

If Israel wants to destroy Hamas, Israel should go ahead and destroy Hamas.

If Israel wants to destroy Hezbollah, Israel should go ahead and destroy Hezbollah.

If Israel and Mossad wants to pull off Munich 2.0 and take out every last leader of Hamas wherever they may be hiding, from Doha to Dresden, and host a red wedding at the Four Seasons in Qatar the next time Haniyeh and Mashaal show up, they should go ahead and do it.

I doubt this will surprise few here, but I think it's still important to note his extreme positioning and rhetoric.

If he really wanted to differentiate himself from the rest of the also-rans, he'd be saying "Fuck Israel, not a penny more."
