Site issues - "confirm secure connection"

This has been a problem all day, not just when loading the site but even when refreshing the page. A discussion of what's going on can be found here: https://saidit.net/s/AskSaidIt/comments/bksz/cloudflare_check_sucks/

Of particular note is this comment from site owner magnora7, I had no idea that SaidIt had been under constant DDOS attack since its inception: https://saidit.net/s/AskSaidIt/comments/bksz/cloudflare_check_sucks/147oj

I don't recall whether it was in that thread or in a conversation with another Wayer, but it was suggested that the reason why this is occurring to the point of having to do the "confirm secure connection" and "verify you're human" checks could be related to the election season fully gearing up. Don't know if that's why but it sounds plausible.

Question- is Saidit US centric?

Because if it is maybe this myopic list of WHYs is reasonable...

But if it is NOT, then there are much bigger and more immediate current events happening that FiveEyes would dearly love to stifle the talk by regular people in public.

Question- is Saidit US centric?

According to this it was hosted in Switzerland a few years ago, no clue for right now but it would indicate that it may not necessarily be US-based.

A traceroute to saidit.net right now ends up in Amsterdam, for what it's worth. With the Cloudflare factor, not sure if it's really real :)

Good to know it isn't just some weird issue with my cell service and exceeding bandwidth usage norms.

I was working my way through the last couple days, painfully, with the intention of getting to current then making a Post asking if anyone else was experiencing this issue- if the system would let me that is.

I've had the 403 issue as well. Had to reload the page and go through the confirm/verify again before it would go through.

Am now reflexively doing Select All Copy before hitting Save on any Comment written- just in case 🤦

I had no idea of this as well, I did know that on the site's inception and on particular dates (like reddit's 2000 sub ban) there was a lot of attacks. I also knew to this day there were a lot of trolls but nothing organized.

This is big. There's a lot of strange activity on the site at the moment. The worst part is nothing particular is going on, unless we're talking about the US government shutdown. But the US would try to disrupt this website? Like wtf.

It was my first guess when I started seeing these Cloudflare checks. It's just too quiet over on this side without a bunch of shelled bozos white knighting for the establishment narrative.

2024 is going to be crazy. The level to which global developments and actions taken by powerful actors are now tied to the timing of elections (and election campaigns) is unprecedented. Obviously the US election is the key one, but there's also an election in Taiwan in January 2024 which will be critical too.

With how crazy next year is going to be, I think everyone should put some personal focus on just getting through it (and this includes financial survival).
