I doubt they care or that it materially affects their bottom line. It's a lot cheaper (and potentially more lucrative) to get their "news" from unnamed government officials than it is to maintain a cadre of investigative journalists doing on-the-ground reporting, especially outside the US, who might inadvertently reveal things counter to what the establishment wants the public to know.
