The U.S. Chamber of Commerce types are really scared. The big money donor class, the investor class, they are shaking in their boots. One Republican, or another, or yet another? I guess some Americans are even ready to vote for them -- not me, to be honest -- but well-meaning upright not necessarily bigoted adult citizens. You or the NYT can even seek such people out, to ask them what's going on, if you wish.

Don't threaten me with a good time! I was already mulling over the possibility of casting a vote for Trump, and then Mike Pence goes and says something like this.

Tonight on @SystemUpdate_ at 7pm ET:

Non-white voters continue to migrate away from the Democratic Party, ignoring media narratives.

Plus: Freddie deBoer on his new book, regarding unified liberal elite control of political and media discourse:

For those questioning whether non-white voters (black, Latino, Asian, etc.) really are migrating away from Dems/Biden - either to not-voting or even voting for Trump/GOP - we'll cover all the data on tonight's show. Even NYT just worryingly reported it:

Polls show Dems again losing lower-income voters of all races. The solution is obvious:

Keep sending out rich media liberals to tell people they should realize how good they have it, and be more grateful for it.

Also interesting to see NYT acknowledging Trump's "realignment."

What not reading books does to a motherfucker. As if the Civil War to end slavery wasn't a populist uprising against an entrenched aristocracy.

This guy has to be the most generic politician in history

Say what now?

What did Lincoln say?

My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.

The only problem is the people who voted for him - the Union Army - would not have accepted that. The drive to end slavery came from the bottom up. Same thing happened in the British Empire btw. The British ruling class would have kept it going for as long as possible.

Oh, I see what you're getting at. Sure, the pre-war abolitionist movement was bottom-up; I was just taken aback by the idea that the war itself was a populist uprising in light of the exact passage you quoted. The British did it the right way, by compensating the slaveholders, and without killing more than half a million of their own people, even if it did take them until 2015 to finish paying off the loan. Lincoln's war on the other hand resulted not only in incalculable suffering but also the federal monstrosity we're dealing with today.

Which Republican Party "we've long known" is he talking about? "Rockefeller Republicans" like Ford and Nixon, or the Goldwater/Reagan/Gingrich wing who took over in 1980?

ZeroHedge:

As we head into another episode of "shutdown theatre" where Republicans throw scat before caving to the Democrats at the 11th hour, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is once again facing an internal revolt from Freedom Caucus members over the Biden administration's $40 billion supplemental spending request - which includes $24 billion more for Ukraine - which many want separated from other aspects of the bill.

What's more, 'Uniparty' McCarthy has also received a clear warning from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and others, that he also needs to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden over his family's foreign business dealings, or his job may be on the line.

Why is it still only "warning" time?

His job should have on the line a long time ago, just as the jobs of so many other corrupt assholes all across the duopoly.

Threats mean nothing, those people only look at their next financial quarter and whatever happens next will either be more of the same or time to whore out to one of the many consulting firms already pre-signing the checks.

The single greatest threat to the Democratic Party is a competent Republican Party. By god, they Republicans will do everything in their power to stop it.

Pence: "Should the new populism of the right seize and guide our party, the Republican Party we've long known will cease to exist"
