This is obviously a matter of national security for China, and being a planned economy sitting on trillions in reserves, I imagine that means they'll get to where they want to be on semiconductors.

USA, on the other hand, is going to fall behind quite rapidly now. The attempts to onshore semiconductor manufacturing are not going well, the only way they could manage this is if they moved entire Taiwan factories along with all their workers to specially-built Taiwanese cities in Texas or wherever. And even then, they'll fuck it up by treating workers like garbage, and not having all the support services needed to run that factory.

I live in Texas. We have work to do to unfuck the rural areas and doubly unfuck the city areas.

We have a massive migration happening from Chicago, NY, and California, while we're having dryer times than normal right now.

That Austin BS with the 15 minute cities are 400 steps the wrong direction while I've been having all sorts of conversations about how to have people focused on treating everyone far better and getting 5 year plans in place.

It's just work all around.

Yeah lots of counties in Texas now are very expensive with the out of state residents coming in.

I agree that 15 minute cities and new urbanism have failed.

Existing people should have some say in how their counties and cities are built.

I would argue that what you are proposing isn't a free society. It's a model where the central authority dictates to the counties their policy. You can make a case that such a system is better (China is a good example of this model being successful), but it's not a society that is free in the sense that local residents have the dominant voice in how their county is run.

This was inevitable given the Western actions and trade war.
