But Zucker has also become a target of activist ire. That’s because he believes that gender dysphoria is a problem that should be treated, if possible, with psychotherapy to prevent transition rather than drugs and surgery to facilitate transition. .....

His position was almost universal until the past few years. The fact that it has become verboten is the result of a powerful activist movement that has been astonishing both in its effectiveness and its lack of scientific evidence.

I am no expert on this topic nor have Democrats or Republicans motivated me to become one, despite their incessant stirring of this pot. However, even I know that "almost universal until the past few years" is false.

There is ample evidence that in progressive communities, multiple girls from the same peer group are announcing they are trans almost simultaneously.

I am so glad I'm living in a working class Mexican neighborhood and probably won't have to deal with this shit for another 10 years

But when parents are worried about their adolescent children, there is usually a good reason. And these were not parents with a political ax to grind: with few exceptions, all of the parents we surveyed were progressive.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

Very important subject and the fact that they circled the wagons to censor him tells you all you need to know about the state of psychology today.

It's not psychology you heretic! It's life/body/gender/something-positivity!!1!

I somehow ended up on this today, a weirdly sensible take from Maher after his morphing into a basic wealthy shitlib disconnected from reality. In many ways, the gender thing is just the next step in the same pattern.

Are there biological factors? Most certainly yes. Are there psychological factors? Fuck yeah. Are there cultural factors? Fuck yeah.

Should this be carefully studied while in the meantime people are nudged towards being careful, patient and rational? Yup.

But instead we're seeing a multiplication of "NO! There's no point in even looking into it, it should be not only accepted (duh) but celebrated (uh...) and made into some kind of accomplishment with bells and jingles showing who the morally superior people are, and anybody who doesn't immediately accept everything they're told to believe, including deferring to others as for what language they're allowed to use going forward, should be smeared, shamed and kicked out of everything they can be kicked off \o/

This same exact... well... algorithm is being applied to everything nowadays. Fat, gender, wars, experimental injections, any issue that can help creating political tribalism among the peasantry, ...

It's almost as if our masters have some sort of agenda they're pushing on us.

But they're going too far, they now have +80% of the populace against them.

As long as those 80% are still more focused on blaming each other about made-up culture war bullshit rather than taking action against the ones actually responsible, those are still fine.

The '2-party duopoly' scam requires the 2 parties to remain reasonably close in public support, otherwise elections are visibly just a sham.

They've been visibly just a sham for a long time already, but those blinders have been bolted very firmly on :/

The combined membership of the duopoly isn't even half the country, most of those being blind cultists just following what they've been told from birth, and yet the other half somehow hasn't found a way to work together and mount any kind of effective opposition.

Divide and conquer works, and it works way too easily :/

Researching something and waiting on actual data before mandating/pushing life-altering medical procedures?

What's this witchcrafty nonsense? TheScience™️ doesn't need data in order to be the unquestionable though ever-changing truth!

We will survey both gender-dysphoric adolescents and their parents, following them for at least five years.

Of course this assumes we have five years.

My research has been denounced by people of all political stripes because I have never prioritized a favored constituency over the truth.

But I have never had an article retracted. Until now.

...

Speaking for myself, this episode has guaranteed that I will study ROGD until we understand it.

That’s why I am about to launch a large, long-term survey of adolescent gender dysphoria, in collaboration with Lisa Littman and Ken Zucker. We will survey both gender-dysphoric adolescents and their parents, following them for at least five years. Among other things, we’ll have better information about adolescents’ early gender dysphoria, mental health, and sexuality; about parents’ attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs; and about the correspondence between adolescents’ and parents’ accounts of the same phenomena.

I guarantee two things. First, it will be a huge, important study with the potential to establish the validity of ROGD. (And if ROGD is an incorrect idea, we will show and publish this.) Second, between the three of us—Littman, Zucker, and me, three previously cancelled scientists who are among the world’s foremost experts in what we are studying—we don’t have a chance in hell of receiving government funding for this project.

We’ll do it anyway. (You can help if you want.)

Censors have tried to stop scientific progress before. Now, as then, the pursuit of truth requires scientists and researchers who refuse to cow to puritans, ideologues and activists.
