What makes this more fucked up is how the first ten minutes humanizes them. The flirting, the conversation with the grandma, the girls having fun; all of it (except the casual racism) makes what happens next so heartbreaking.

It's not heartbreaking if you're driving like a fucking idiot. It's called Darwinism.

What racism?

[–]kissfan7[S] 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun -  (17 children)

The comment about "gypsies".

[–]Newmug 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (16 children)

The bit when she says "Most is full of gypsies"? How is that racist? Where did she demonstrate hatred? And to whom, gypsies are not a race? And anyway, thats like saying "Ireland is full of Caucasians". Would that be racist?

[–]kissfan7[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

First I just want to make sure: Are these honest questions?

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 5 fun1 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 5 fun -  (13 children)

thats like saying "Ireland is full of Caucasians".

That is still racism to an extent. It might not be negative per se, but it sort of promotes racism socially.

But the comment about gypsies is even more racist because that would usually carry a negative connotation, while your example would carry a neutral or positive connotation among people.

[–]Newmug 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

It is not racist to say Ireland is full of Caucasians. It is simply a fact. Saying that does not include any hatred of Caucasians. If you said 'Ireland is full of scummy Caucasians' or some such derogatory remark, then it may be considered racist. You would still have to demonstrate hate though.

Stating that commenting on gypsies 'would usually carry a negative connotation' is a huge leap. Have you evidence of this?

[–]appreciation 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (9 children)

I think that you have a very narrow definition of racism. Racism does not have to include hatred (but that doesn't make it a good thing).

The word gypsy has always had a negative connotation to it. It's humiliating, demeaning and derogatory. I can't fathom how that's not common knowledge. What sort of evidence are you looking for?

[–]FuckheadDK 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

No, he has the correct view of the definition, before it was hijacked by insane progressivism. Fuck me.

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Is it correct because u/FuckheadDK said so?

[–]FuckheadDK 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

So if we categorized the population of Ireland by race and the data concluded that the majority were Caucasian, that would be racist on some level? What are you, down syndrome?

[–]Newmug 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Nah, the textbook definition of racism includes hate. And hate means to regard someone or something so negatively, that you see killing it as a positive. Your definition of racism is way off.

How or why do you say the word gypsy has negative connotations? Maybe your part of the world is an exception, but everywhere else it just means nomadic. There are Caucasian gypsies, Latino ones, Oriental ones etc. Being 'gypsy' does not mean belonging to a race. So I ask you again, can you point to any solid publicly available evidence that the word, 'gypsy', by itself, has negative connotations? You certainly can't show evidence that its racist, because by definition its not.

[–]appreciation 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Nah, the textbook definition of racism includes hate.

What do you mean by textbook definition?

And hate means to regard someone or something so negatively, that you see killing it as a positive.

First of all, an irrelevant point, so nice gish gallop. Second of all no, that's not what hate means.

Next: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiziganism

The term Antigypsyism is recognized by the European Parliament and the European Commission as well as by a wide cross-section of civil society.

It's got its own word for it. Why on earth do you think it's got its own word if it's not a thing like you're saying?

It's very real and it's a prejudice. If you're just trying to be obtuse and play semantics games ("gypsies isn't a race") then please tell me so I can stop responding.

There are Caucasian gypsies, Latino ones, Oriental ones etc.

LOL is all I can say here. I mean.. sure, if you just throw all the nomadic people from that area and of no particular race into that group, then that's not racism or discrimination. But it's simply dumb to assume most (any?) people view it that way.

Don't know mate. I spy with my little eye intellectual dishonesty in your last comment.

but everywhere else it just means nomadic

Evidence on "everywhere else"? Will need some evidence.

No, it certainly does not promote racism socially.

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, it certainly does promote racism socially.

Happens way too often. Youth, inexperience, and a feeling of being indestructible. More often fueled by testosterone and daring in young men.

I lost a friend in junior high that stole their parents car and went on a joyride. As I recall, her and her friend had also gotten some alcohol somewhere. They were going in excess of 100mph when the car hit a bump and they lost control. It rolled and killed her. She was 14 years old.

People usually slow down and become more cautious as they get older. Usually. Often after they've been injured in a serious car crash. Sometimes they don't make it that long.

[–]CoralRiver 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree. I'm the most cautious of my friends and I was still knuckleheaded enough to see if I could make an empty van go up to 100mph (it was a long stretch of empty road for an industrial site that wouldn't arrive until a decade later). I almost found out the hard way that vans can only go to high speeds if fully loaded. The rear started hopping a bit, but I managed to have it under control and avoided slamming the brakes, only slowly coasting to a stop. I survived to learn to respect the dangers of high speed & with age, am preferring to go slow through suburban streets. As you said, some don't. One of my classmates usually avoided wearing a seat belt. Enough to say that he's not around anymore.

[–]Lad 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What did they expect when they don't pay attention to the road and drive at an absurd speed? Don't get me wrong, I hate seeing people get hurt... but if you're doing something like driving and not focusing, I have no sympathy for what happens.

[–]Dontbotheritsnotreal 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

What actually went wrong? Did she keep going faster after they stated they were going 140km/h?

I thought it was happening when I saw her taking her phone out and handling her drink at the same time but when the accident happened she seemed to be looking at the road.

[–]Dontbotheritsnotreal 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Also props to the helpers thinking about her spine while handling her. They were calm and supportive and had a grip on the situation.

These are the people you wish for when shit happens

[–]CoralRiver 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It seemed like she swerved to avoid something. But at that speed, I think she swerved to hard & the car oversteered into a side impact; one of the more dangerous parts to crash into due to minimal crumple zone. The driver became the passenger's crumple zone, sadly.

[–]analweapon 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe alcohol in their drinks? Driver seemed very chill after the last sip. Also focusing on the bird poop at that speed and foot still on the accelerator might have contributed?

[–]Aquilani 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

2 days ago i was driving 150km/h non stop and even 180km/h a little bit. all it would take is 2 seconds going a little too much to the left and i'd hit the stone barrier, then pretty easily bounced of it to the right lane where all the massive trucks are, and that's almost always game over. that's why i don't even think for a second that i'd pick up my phone or anything, this is why rest stops are for. but hey, stupid people, mostly younger, just don't understand that.

[–]beefer 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Any aftermath photos/vids of this out there?

Holy shit great video dude. i watched the moment like a few dozen times. And what's with the edgy teens in the comments lol. You should ignore those. You were also right about the low-key racism with the gypsy comment.

nice alt account kid, only insecure retards with oversensitivity to both fiction and reality use edge as a buzzword since it means you automatically correlate everything slightly acid or raw with bad and inferior, which ironically means you are either a spoiled pampered teenager yourself, or a spoiled manbaby with no purpose or future.

Takes a manbaby to pretend being over-censored and childish is a sign of maturity now. Ironic since you are also a sick fuck looking for accident videos, you should go back to watch pony cartoons or something on pair with the mentality of a kid who calls things edgy, instead of talking to your alts.

The end of this vid has what appears to be both fathers on the scene so they must not have been far from home. The father of the driver is upset she rented or bought a car when he already bought her one.
