What makes this more fucked up is how the first ten minutes humanizes them. The flirting, the conversation with the grandma, the girls having fun; all of it (except the casual racism) makes what happens next so heartbreaking.

[–]DoctorsHateHim 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's not heartbreaking if you're driving like a fucking idiot. It's called Darwinism.

[–]Newmug 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (18 children)

What racism?

[–]kissfan7[S] 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun -  (17 children)

The comment about "gypsies".

[–]Newmug 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (16 children)

The bit when she says "Most is full of gypsies"? How is that racist? Where did she demonstrate hatred? And to whom, gypsies are not a race? And anyway, thats like saying "Ireland is full of Caucasians". Would that be racist?

[–]kissfan7[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

First I just want to make sure: Are these honest questions?

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 5 fun1 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 5 fun -  (13 children)

thats like saying "Ireland is full of Caucasians".

That is still racism to an extent. It might not be negative per se, but it sort of promotes racism socially.

But the comment about gypsies is even more racist because that would usually carry a negative connotation, while your example would carry a neutral or positive connotation among people.

[–]Newmug 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

It is not racist to say Ireland is full of Caucasians. It is simply a fact. Saying that does not include any hatred of Caucasians. If you said 'Ireland is full of scummy Caucasians' or some such derogatory remark, then it may be considered racist. You would still have to demonstrate hate though.

Stating that commenting on gypsies 'would usually carry a negative connotation' is a huge leap. Have you evidence of this?

[–]appreciation 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (9 children)

I think that you have a very narrow definition of racism. Racism does not have to include hatred (but that doesn't make it a good thing).

The word gypsy has always had a negative connotation to it. It's humiliating, demeaning and derogatory. I can't fathom how that's not common knowledge. What sort of evidence are you looking for?

[–]FuckheadDK 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

No, he has the correct view of the definition, before it was hijacked by insane progressivism. Fuck me.

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Is it correct because u/FuckheadDK said so?

[–]FuckheadDK 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

So if we categorized the population of Ireland by race and the data concluded that the majority were Caucasian, that would be racist on some level? What are you, down syndrome?

[–]Newmug 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Nah, the textbook definition of racism includes hate. And hate means to regard someone or something so negatively, that you see killing it as a positive. Your definition of racism is way off.

How or why do you say the word gypsy has negative connotations? Maybe your part of the world is an exception, but everywhere else it just means nomadic. There are Caucasian gypsies, Latino ones, Oriental ones etc. Being 'gypsy' does not mean belonging to a race. So I ask you again, can you point to any solid publicly available evidence that the word, 'gypsy', by itself, has negative connotations? You certainly can't show evidence that its racist, because by definition its not.

[–]appreciation 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Nah, the textbook definition of racism includes hate.

What do you mean by textbook definition?

And hate means to regard someone or something so negatively, that you see killing it as a positive.

First of all, an irrelevant point, so nice gish gallop. Second of all no, that's not what hate means.

Next: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiziganism

The term Antigypsyism is recognized by the European Parliament and the European Commission as well as by a wide cross-section of civil society.

It's got its own word for it. Why on earth do you think it's got its own word if it's not a thing like you're saying?

It's very real and it's a prejudice. If you're just trying to be obtuse and play semantics games ("gypsies isn't a race") then please tell me so I can stop responding.

There are Caucasian gypsies, Latino ones, Oriental ones etc.

LOL is all I can say here. I mean.. sure, if you just throw all the nomadic people from that area and of no particular race into that group, then that's not racism or discrimination. But it's simply dumb to assume most (any?) people view it that way.

Don't know mate. I spy with my little eye intellectual dishonesty in your last comment.

but everywhere else it just means nomadic

Evidence on "everywhere else"? Will need some evidence.

[–]FuckheadDK 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No, it certainly does not promote racism socially.

[–]appreciation 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, it certainly does promote racism socially.

[–]Hrochator 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's true tho, Most is a fucking full blown out gypsytown....
