I feel like most of these people just don't have children and thus lack the necessary context to care, though a little empathy would go a long way.

It's kinda awful to think that they couldn't put themselves in the shoe of someone who has a child... Or anything they don't want despoiled... Just for 5 seconds. It's great that they aren't instantly hateful of someone with a serious disorder that is trying to be responsible about it, but you can't let one kind of empathy blind you to another.
