Is there any evidence that SIs demise is due to their pushing trans on their readership? I don't actually read the magazine, not being part of the target demographic, so I can't comment.

That said, I think of someone like Kim Petras or Jazz Jennings as a castrati male, and also a child abuse victim, since they were both children when their 'sex-change' interventions were begun.

I'd assume that magazine sales are down across the board due to a number of factors but essentially will boil down to the internet filling the niche of what magazines used to fill. Be some place for good magazines going forward I think but your quality will have to be top notch. Sports illustrated for example, why pay to get the swimsuit edition when I can just google search and get more women in swimsuits than I could ever want for free.

Putting a trans-women on the cover or other woke pandaring is likely a desperate hail Mary to try to gain relivence when the writing is on the wall in terms of their future sales numbers, granted I think it likely hastens that demise by alienating their dwindling customer base faster.

I agree. People who buy the SI swimsuit edition are buying to look at females in swimsuits. No matter how much push there is, a large portion of males will never accept males who transition to females and are trying to sexually entice them.
In fact I think it will offend and even anger them.
