I feel like anytime you have to go and sell yourself as an "XYZ comedian" you aren't going to be very funny, otherwise you'd just headline as a comedian. Nobody headlines Dave Chappelle as a "Black Comedian" he's just funny. Loads of gay guys are funny and don't need to headline themselves as "gay comedians".

I mean it just limits your audience really, like why should anyone who isn't LGBTQ watch a queer comedy special? It's clear that there's gonna be a ton of specific in jokes you won't get if you aren't part of that group, since it's a "safe space" for that group they're going to also have to walk on eggshells and just tell boring ass lame jokes, what's the point?

Well, the point is that someone who markets themselves as an "(X) Comedian" of any group secretly know damn well they're not funny, and also know the only way they're going to have a successful enough career to get to the "your own comedy special" level or even successfully tour as a comedian is lean into identity politics and market their comedy stylings to the many people in the group who are ultimately just sheep who just want to baa at a picture of a sheep that looks like them or wants to have sex with things they want to have sex with, along with non-members of the group they could successfully bully and browbeat into thinking if they don't support this person it's bigotry.
