He lives in USA. This amusingly comes after some asshole had to apologize for calling her a nazi because said asshole lives in UK where he could be effectively ruined by her lawyers. So this guy is daring her to sue him.

Also he's advertising for his writing, which is smart if it's intentional.

So many people are delusional about libel laws working differently in the US and UK.

If you outright lie about someone they work exactly the same.

Yeah.

Not only that, the damages are actually restricted to actual financial damages arising from the reputational damage, there are no awards for punitive or emotional harm - that applies to all civil cases in England and Wales (Scotland and Northern Ireland may differ due to their separate legal systems).

If JK Rowling won, she might struggle to prove that she suffered any damages at all. However, the guy she was suing may have ended up bankrupted by having to pay his own and JKR’s legal fees. I am willing to bet she would engage some very, very, very expensive solicitors and almost certainly a KC with extensive experience in libel.

But that also ties to the big difference: In the US, there are awards for punitive and emotional harm, so if Rowling chooses to sue and it goes to an American court- which is also viable in this instance, she CAN sue for those things and make sure the person can't even find a penny on the ground without having to hand it to her...as well as the "they did threaten her life, which is also kind of a big criminal charge if they want it."

The process is the punishment
