LOL WUTThis is what happens when you think “all art is political”. Also, he’s wrong because the anime character in question is canonically British.

To some people, the act of taking a shit is political. Not because it inherently is--unless you're taking a shit on some country's flag or something--but because they're perpetually locked into an obsessive fixation on politics, and every other subject or topic must be filtered through, incorporated into, or subordinated to their fixation.

All art is political, because it reflects someone's personal view of the world - it shows what they think is worth seeing, which is by definition political - the art of the possible, after all.
That concept isn't up for debate. It's just misunderstood by people who think "political" means one specific thing which is actually just a subset of politics.

The bigger picture here is that there's "art" and then there's "art containing deliberate and calculated ideological propaganda". This "all art is/isn't political" bickering back and forth is missing the point.

Yeah people are confusing the meaning of the word "political" with the terms "propaganda" or "political agenda". It isn't about being paranoid or suspicious that you're being astroturfed, it's just realizing that there's no way to experience something objectively because you always have your own personal bias.
Like it would be "political" to look at that image and go "oh I'd never eat that, I like to stay fit". That's a form of politics.

Fitness is not a partisan issue. You're either stay healthy or cut down on your life span. All political spectrums want to live long and healthy lives.

I didn't say partisan, I said political. Socially negotiated. There are fat people who don't want to take care of themselves who by existing politicize being overweight. They express an alternate viewpoint.

I'm not sure where this definition of “political” is coming from. In all dictionaries I can find online, the definition of “political” always refers to the government one way or another. Me deciding to draw an apple instead a banana doesn't involve the government at all.

political
"Politics (from Greek: Πολιτικά, politiká, 'affairs of the cities') is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations among individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status."
Art is public and by nature of showing one viewpoint instigates a political position - i.e. it holds potential political power as a topic for debate that may change relationships of power, status, etc. with each other and the world.
Even a cave painting is political, because it's a guy saying "I'm the one with spears who catches and eats the bull". It's establishing a power relationship, a potential form of human organization, via crude art.
