A village pub owner has been forced to cancel his 12-year run of discounted Ladies' Nights — after one disgruntled man said it was 'discrimination'.

Owner Simon Skinner has called time on the popular 50 per cent food discounts that female customers were eligible for on Monday nights at his pub The Star Inn in Lingfield, Surrey.

The beloved tradition, that started in 2010, will be receiving its last orders at the end of October because one out-of-town punter claimed that it was 'discrimination'.

Under the Equality Act 2010, cases of sex discrimination, which include providing different goods and services to men and women because of their sex, can be pursued in the civil courts when a claim is brought forward.

The country pub said on its Facebook page that the night, popular with both men and women, was introduced as a way to 'right the balance' when it came to gender inequality.

Regulars expressed their shock and outrage, branding the complaint 'ridiculous' and that the 'world had gone mad'.

”Women have that need to communicate, much more than men do.

'I just think it gives women something that is special for them — and it's a great opportunity to catch up with friends.

'Ladies' Night works really well — the conversation flows.

'My wife had a friend over the other day to look at something and they ended up talking for two hours.

Internalised misandry/sneaky fuckery is a terrible thing.

The interesting thing is that an absolutely open and shut case of sex discrimination was viewed very differently by everyone just because men were the victims in a way that would get you absolutely pilloried, quite rightly, were it the other way round.

This is why it got cancelling.

Local men liked the offer because it got women coming into the pub so they could meet them and talk to them.

People not actually seeing the real world effect of the offer go by ideology alone and think men must be the victims.

Now that town will be full of incels.

Well done MRAs.

Hell yes, let there be ladies night. Whatever dude is complaining about this is in violation of Bro Code, specifically as it relates to cock blocking.

Lol agreed. A clear violation of the bro-code has taken place. Also the reason why they don't do "lads night" is because every night is lads night and if you gave them 50% off they'd drink the bar outta business lol.

That said this is clearly a case of sex discrimination, legally. Really clear cut and surprised the bar owner didn't have an out already planned. Like giving the one guy that complained the discount so he'd leave.

The whole purpose of Ladies Night is to get more women around for guys to meet.

Just extend the 50% discount for food on Mondays to everyone. There, women get a discount and it doesn’t break the Equality Act. We don’t want people breaking equality legislation when it suits them for some reason - that’s how inequality happens.

Right so this is one area where I'll argue that sex based discrimination should be allowed and a carve out in the law created. Generally I'm against it, but this should be an exception and here's why.

A bar, or a club, is a place where people go to meet potential partners. In a heterosexual context it's always going to be more men than women, and in the basic laws of supply and demand, you charge more for the demographic you want less of, men, and you charge less for the demographic you want more of, women. Since the purpose of the venue is to meet people, I think there's a good argument to allow this kind of discrimination especially if it's a one night a week type deal.

Same would apply to, lesbian bars that don't want to allow men, or at the very least discourage them. Gay bars for the same reason etc. It's night life, it's not a necessity, so long as everyone has options there is some reasonable leeway to allow carve outs to the generalized anti-discirimination policies, and giving women a 50% discount in this context specifically isn't that big an issue.

Granted if my morning coffee shop did this I'd be identifying as a woman every morning for the three seconds I buy coffee, making a pride flag for my very important identity, and crying about discrimination against oppotuno-caffino-gynomorphs.

Oh fuck off, really all the landlord had to do was make another night a "lads night" and he would have been in the clear.

Yeah, but that would probably be a money loser. Lads are the majority, presumably, so it would just be a day when most customers pay less and few if any additional customers come.

I think we should double the price of drinks for everyone by law and then force places to donate the proceeds to helping with Internally, Directionless, Inexplicably, Odd, Trans, Identity, Confusion, Draining, Intelligence, Crushing, Kids, Hopes, Ending, All, Dreams. We need to use the I.D.I.O.T.I.C.D.I.C.K.H.E.A.D fund to secure the existence of the gay race and a future for trans babies.
