From a Disney cartoon (shocking, I know…), The Owl House… This really showcases the consequences of Steven Universe. Cartoons like these aren’t actually made for kids. They’re made for man-children who constantly demand for “validation”.

Note that they are always WAY more excited about this stuff showing up in kids shows than they are about it showing up in adult programming.

Then again, this is Disney. A company founded to entertain kids. It still makes “kid” shows but those shows now have to cater to the creepy Reddit sexual politics of childless 30 and 40 something year olds. Because that demographic are now their primary audience.

They're larping their own family issues.

You see in these shows the main character is subject to mild resistance towards something from their parents or other authority figure then they go on a speech about love and acceptance or whatever and with the power of friendship the bigot backs down and everyone is happy. It's what the writers imagined they wanted to do in their own situation. Actually what happens is they either stay quiet because they are cowards or they do say something and it's rare anyone jumps up to their defense because they are stupid and causing a scene.

Right now it's gay LGBT shit. Before it was "you can be whatever you want to be" pie in the sky career shit. "Mom didn't want me to go to art school but I went anyway follow your dreams". Follow your dreams is fair advice, but if your dreams are stupid then you'll fail. Queue loads of emotionally weak children going into the humanities who have panic attacks after getting points knocked off for spelling, or if someone says they don't like their favorite TV show. Seen stupid nerds get in fights over someone dissing their favorite show it's so stupid. Someone asks you to critique their screenplay and they get mad at you when you tell them to change shit to make it more marketable. Yeah I know you want to be an unrestricted artist and that's great, but if you make shit nobody wants to watch besides you you can't bully and guilt trip people into going and seeing it forever. Only works maybe once a generation.

I swear in the 90's there were a bunch of kids shows about a kid wanting to be vegetarian but her family were butchers and similar trite shite.

Not just one episode like the Simpsons, that was the basis of the whole show and all the characters.

My guess is that it’s a subconscious excitement over the possibility of manipulating children into supporting that stuff and “exploring” themselves.
