It amazes me that the pharma companies made a big push for prep to be available on the NHS, and then there are resurgences of gonorrhoea, syphilis, herpes and now Monkeypox among the gay community. Almost as if telling people they can fuck multiple people without condoms has consequences.

The thing about PrEP that's foremost in my mind, and I really don't understand why nobody is talking about this, is that we can't even have contraceptives--that term encompassing condoms, birth control pills, and IUDs, with vasectomies as an extreme endpoint--with a 100% success rate, and that's a reasonably well-developed field.

But people are treating PrEP like it'll never fail to do what it's supposed to, and they just go barebacking without a care as a result. And all I can think about is what kind of awful horrorshow it'll be if the drug ever fails for some reason (like a resistant strain of HIV popping up).
