I miss those times too. Except it's not necessarily bullying, but social conditioning. Social conditioning actually benefits the target.

Who would have thought that universally observed childhood behaviours could possibly serve an underlying useful purpose and that interrupting those cross-cultural, cross-temporal behaviours may have unforeseen negative outcomes!

Now, that doesn’t mean that teachers and parents should turn a blind eye to bullying, but the current attitude is clearly wrong, because it is turning out a bunch of helpless, fragile young adults who value safety over freedom and use the terminology of child protection with respect to full adults.
