The thing with asexual, is that lack of sex drive is quite often a symptom of a medical issue. Instead of going to their doctor, getting tested and appropriately treated where necessary, they are waving a silly flag instead.

In all fairness, going to the doctor for sexual issues and getting treatment only works if the doctor takes you seriously, isn't woke, and you're male. If you're a woman, you just get a comforting pat on the head and are told you haven't met the right guy yet and maybe a referral to a therapist. If you're a guy with sexual issues, you get a whole bunch of medical and hormone tests done to find the root of the problem.

Not necessarily. Some churches take the whole "be fruitful and multiply" thing to the extreme and see marriage and childbirth as a woman's sole purpose in life. Women who either don't get the chance to marry/have children or refuse to do so are heavily stigmatized in really evangelical communities. Also, nuns are more of a Catholic or Orthodox thing, Protestants don't have nuns or priests.

I don't see why asexuality isn't a possible sexuality that could exist. If there are people who are sexually attracted to both sexes (bisexuals), it stands to reason that there are people who are sexually attracted to neither sex.

As someone who likes yaoi and slash fanfiction, the comparison to romance novels is spot on. Yaoi and most fanfiction is created by women and for women, and for many young girls it’s the first time in their lives that a genre of fiction specifically exists for them that doesn’t involve the male gaze. Romance novels used to fulfill this desire for romance, but then more male authors started writing romance and now most women don’t read romance novels. Women love romantic stories, sexual attraction to one or both characters is great but not necessary.

About A: I wouldn’t say that a person necessarily knows their own sexuality. I think that for some people, they just go through life not really giving it much thought other than the pressure society puts on people to get married and have children.

As for why women think they’re lesbians: I suspect that it is for the same reason there are more women claiming to be asexual than men. They’re repulsed by the idea of having sex with men, and assume that their sexual repulsion to the opposite sex must mean that they aren’t straight or bisexual.
