OHMY GOD I AM (as an addicted Total War Player, and thus second only in all of human history to Alexander the Great! /s) SO upset with the idiots who planned this battle. One volley siege weaponry, spears INFRONT of the pits - a cavalry charge while on the defensive? FFS...

Dothraki hidden behind the castle, unsullied/siege behind the fire pit - light the pit as soon as they arrive and stab them when they walk through. If the spear lines were failing, the dothraki would ride in circles at the base of the wall cutting them down as they tried to climb up.

FFS.

The whole thing reeked of idealism and "common" literature tricks to enhance the suspense...

However Nerdrotic posited that the Dothraki were cut for budget reasons. Similar to last season where the producers were told "you can have the polar bear or the direwolf" - they chose the polar bear. This season they cut the dothraki to save money for dragons and wildfire I assume. (hopefully for some Ghost and Nymeria too, but who knows at this point).

I understand the budget cuts but really.

There could have been so many practical creative work arounds.

Say, the Dothraki emboldened by their flaming sabers decide to charge because they are over confidant. Others try to stop them and fail... they all die. Same result but better.

Killing the Ice King was a little anti-climactic. Unfortunately there aren't too many YouTubers who are critically and analytically very deep, or they are hard to find. Had I known anyone would respond I would have kept and posted some.

It was a good episode but not great. I'm guessing it will get better. I don't think they blew the whole wad.

Either that or it's another Hollywood money laundering scheme.

Well, some of the spoilers that were posted months ago - that were proven true by this episode - still have some talk about events that may relate to the NK (he may return, we will just have to wait and see).

Personally, I think they killed him in order to boost interest in their forthcoming prequel "The Long Night".

See they had all this lore itching to be said on screen, Sam got all those books, Bran has the song (history) in his head - but they opted to kill him without a single piece of exposition!

They EVEN had him SMILE when he survived the dragon fire - WHY do that, if you were just going to kill him. I can understand an a-moral, emotionless bio-weapon, so why add that smile at the LAST little bit there, giving him "personality".

The shots were amazing (could have been brighter, obviously) - the music was amazing - and aside from the few deaths, I was really happy! They just didn't do justice to the EXPOSITION of the story...

Maybe they did it, like I said, to boost interest in the prequel - but also to leave the deep lore for GRRM, that's HIS ending after all. The hints about this ending were there from SEASON FOUR, when Melisandre meets Arya and gives her the "blue eyes" prophecy. So the show runners knew that far back... we can't really shit on them too hard...

I physically cringed at that point.

They are make million$. They can afford better writers.

A+++

But was this worse than the opening of The Last Jedi?

I never even saw Last Jedi, I fell asleep in Force Awakens.

I am a pretty big Star Wars fan.

I am a pretty big Star Wars fan.

Like Chewbacca big? Or Jabba the Hut big?

Last Jedi was the worst writing but the best visuals, so far.
