Perhaps - though paranoid schizophrenia is a common mental disorder, variations of which are on a very wide spectrum. It's a commen type of:

Schizophrenia is a kind of psychosis, which means your mind doesn't agree with reality.

Paranoid schizophrenia is characterized by predominantly positive symptoms of schizophrenia, including delusions and hallucinations. These debilitating symptoms blur the line between what is real and what isn't, making it difficult for the person to lead a typical life.

These are of course broad definitions of a mental illness that can come and go for many people. Chronic occurances are estimated to occur in 1 out of 100 people.

Thus it's not difficult to spot, nor is it uncommon.
