Thanks for the invitation.

I am surprised that there is an option to allow search engines to index my profile. Perhaps /u/d3rr could remove that option?

Anyone know if Reddit does this automatically?

Yes, I believe reddit does automatically. Iirc, I remember going through reddit preferences and ticking a bunch of privacy boxes on/off I didn’t agree with. It only takes a few seconds to check.

I know reddit also takes data from your account automatically too unless you tick a box.

Interesting. So I've now bothered to look and indeed, Reddit offers the following controls. This reminds me that they're also giving a government-connected Chinese company (as part owner) this stuff:

[ ] make my votes public

[ ] allow my data to be used for research purposes

[x] don't allow search engines to index my user profile

[ ] allow reddit to log my outbound clicks for personalization

[ ] let others see my online status

This is one reason I did not renew my premium account years ago, as there reports that the special service also tracked all of my browing history

They'll still track you for free, even without paying the premium.

Nothing is free - the price: freedom.

Uncheck it if you don't like it

Can there be a guarantee that Saidit will not benefit financially from the sale of user data?

You'll have to ask SaidIt. In my opinion, your data isn't worth shit and it would be colossally dumb of the SaidIt owners/admins to do so.

This flag in the preferences doesn't mean shit, it just tells search engines to ignore the page. Lots of them don't care and do it anyway.
