We should have the option to make our history private. It would improve the content of the site, as people would feel less constrained in their speech. Basically, the content would become a little more like 4chan's.

u/magnora7, what do you think?

Eh I dunno, I think you should not be saying things that you aren't willing to stand by. It is an anonymous account, after all. If you're truly concerned about people holding you accountable for the things you've said in the past, just change accounts and get a new account every so often.

Is it a good idea to have comments in posts that cannot be searched for?

There is a significant risk that this could turn into a shit post free-for-all?

Could the site introduce this feature, and also have it delete the Karma/credibility? Or save the comments to a public comment archive?

We need a way back machine for comments.

This is a PSA for the shills.

Edit: this should don't this should reset the karma number.

Let people self censor their credibility.

For me is more that some times I joke, I'm sarcastic or I wind people up but also post serious stuff so I don't want abutting l annoying sealions coming back with "well 2 years ago you posted that you believed trans women could just push babies out of their pee holes but now you are saying the opposite so which is it?"

I'll probably manually delete for now though.

Yet another reason /s is useful at the end of sarcastic posts

Does more account registrations mean more ad revenue for you?

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Maybe if we had ads, but we don't. We're 100% donation based with no ads

Ads create bad incentives for the admins, imo. Like allowing stuff that's obviously bad for site culture but is profitable, as in your example.

Good to hear. Thanks.

I agree with you. The number of times on other subs I made a clear statement of fact which then got a response of 'this evil person said this once'.

block those twats, relax

Pretty much the same logic as disarming the populace. How can we spot bots if they all hide their history?

Bad idea. Transparency and openness are always good. "Sunlight is the best disinfectant."

It would be even better if it was improved: allowing users to make some comments private and the rest visible to the public.

If you have to micromanage your image one a website to that degree, you're up to something.

Victim-blaming at its finest.

I see it as a positive when people are so stupid that they try to use your comment history against you. It shows you who is worth arguing with and who isn't. The kinds of people who think your comment history means you must be wrong no matter what you actually say won't be swayed no matter how well you make your point and how much truth is on your side. They're a waste of time.
