The quality of the image depends on the quality of the signal.

If your not receiving a good signal from the transmitting station, the image won't come through very good.

So it's like 56k almost. Interesting. Is it a lossy or lossless transfer?

I'm not rly sure, with analog sstv, its prolly a transfer rate of 15 kbps. DRM sstv is prolly 40 kbps.

Prolly about 40 seconds to 2 minutes depending on the size of the image.

What's the bandwidth on downloading these images? How long does it take to transfer a megabyte? Do they use jpeg compression?

I happened to turn the volume up on my police scanner at the right time, and a few ham operators were talkin about QSSTV. so i got on my pc and opened up GQRX, and i captured these 2 nice SSTV images over the air :)

ah, yea, im not really sure, i mainly have 1 for decoding ham radio dmr and police apco 25, lol. ik its possible for the rtl sdr to recieve information from a home weather station, its just a matter of knowing what frequency the device(s) transmit on :)

I dont think it would work with a home ai of that type tho, it most likely runs thru your wifi, which operates at 2.4 GHz, or 5.8 GH'z, depending on what router you have. and those frequencies are above what the rtl sdr is designed to receive.

if you wanna monitor weather in some form, you can either make an antenna from a pop can, and monitor one of the meteor weather sattelites with it, or you can buy a home weather station and set your sdr to monitor the outdoor devices recording and transmitting the local weather data to your base

I was never really into this, but it's neat that even something this niche has made it's way over! c:
