These are kids with behavioral problems. Talking about their feelings in therapy didn't work for them or they wouldn't have been sent to a discount Christian camp for troubled teens.

I support the use of extreme measures to correct their behavior. It only seems awful if you haven't had to live with someone like that.

I was sent to boarding school for troubled teens much like this, except it was not christian, and I can tell you from personal experience that this only aggravates any existing problems. Many of the people I attended with are now dead from drug problems they never had before going there. These types of schools have a track record of being shut down for physically, psychologically, and even sexually abusing children in their care, including the one I went to. In my experience they create a bunch of young adults with PTSD that have a very difficult time reintegrating into society

Ah, now we have the origin story.

I'm thinking about selling the rights to Marvel/Disney, I figure its at least as good as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

My parents decided not to send my brother away, so instead everyone else got traumatized. That's not better. But about that decision, they chose not to because these places are known to be awful. Anyone doing their due diligence should know that. I think it was a mistake, it sacrificed everyone's well-being for his.

When we got our first cats, Kiki and Peaches, they came from a bipolar owner who tormented the cats so much they started defecating and urinating on everything in protest. We took them, treated them right, and while the issue improved, it did not go away.

Positive reinforcement did not work. Kiki and Peaches were so messed up they didn't link what I did to their behavior at all in more subtle ways. The bipolar former owner was mercurial. And living with cat's pissing on everything was not an option.

It was a desperate last resort but I kind of had to break their spirit and force them to submit. They lived long happy lives and the unpleasantness only had to happen once. They were not unscathed by the event. Even the wife commented I broke their spirit. Still feel awful about that. But the alternative was death for them.

That's why I let Gizmo be as catlike as I can. I mean, positive reinforcement works when you're not trying to correct a major behavioral problem. If he's a good cat, he gets treats, he can sleep with us, he gets lots of attention. But he was raised, hand fed by me, from 4 weeks old. He wasn't broken by a crazy bitch before we got him.

You bring up some good points, its a complicated issue, but want to include my 2 cents on this

I am sympathetic to some of what you are saying here. The problem is there was a wide range of how 'troubled' these kids actually were. There were some kids there who society needed to be protected from, there were also kids who were there because they weren't getting straight A's, or got caught smoking weed or having premarital sex, and a wide range in between. I am quite sure is the case with this Christian school as well.

You are essentially advocating for these schools as a type of private kiddie jail, which I suppose is warranted in some cases, but there are literally no standards for who is sent to these places. Humans are also more complex than cats, and I would point out that putting criminals in prison is not particularly rehabilitative, it tends to be the opposite. In my opinion the value of prisons are in protecting the public from dangerous people, not because they are great at rehabilitating them.

If the parents are dumping mildly inconvenient kids that's on the parents.

Actually worse than that. A reeducation camp.
