They probably weren't paying those nigs directly. But everyone involved in that story is a city-dweller, so none of them are innocent.

Honestly, this story was so confusing. I thought the white nurse and black kid both paid for the Citi bike, but it was some citi bike glitch that led to this.

So was the black kid just stealing her bike? I thought a phone is required for unlocking and locking citi bike. I am not sure. I never used citi bike.

The vague nature of the story is what highlights the bias of the media in their response. Instead of looking into it more or outright dismissing it as a very mild misunderstanding, they jumped in to accuse what is most likely a victim of intimidation as falsely accusing someone of theft due to their race. In another decade we'd be defending a lone woman being confronted by a group of young men while onlookers ignore.
