I think it's pretty clear this person was a relatively normal teen, maybe with some capacity for same-sex attraction, who was goaded by internet wackjobs into taking wrong-sex hormones and maybe even having surgery.

I don't find it so clear, but that's certainly one possibility that crossed my mind.
