I can mention the damaging effects of alcohol, and the potential risks alcohol poses, but no one will call me anti-alcohol. If I do the same thing about vaccines, suddenly I'm a hardcore anti-vaxxer.

Exactly. People suck at seeing shades of gray over polarized issues, which is half the reason the media polarizes them in the first place.
