How does such a miniscule portion of the population have such unchecked power in online activism? This isn't a trick question, I legitimately have no idea. Is there just a massive correlation between being transgender and being "extremely online?" Has anyone studied this?

I sympathize with dysphoric trans people (not AGP goons), but as long as it's impossible to actually discuss gender issues on a mainstream platform without being treated as a TERRIBLE PERSON that is LITERALLY KILLING TRANS PEOPLE I'd just rather not engage at all.

The answer to your second question is yes- at least in my observation.

They all seem to feed off of eachother online and are usually dweeby men and/or incels that were online all their lives to begin with. They were already enmeshed in moderator positions in forums (as seen on Reddit, for example), work in a field that has to do with IT more often than not, and have lots of influence on platforms like Twitter, where loud aggressive opinions are king. This is why it seems impossible to escape them. They're net-savvy dorks who decided to become their own GFs and turn the tide of LGBT progress into advancing Men's Rights Activism Pt. 2. With the power of the internet behind them, of course.

That's my theory, anyway. 😄

I can totally see this. And I've also observed how quickly they learn that offline physical spaces aren't exactly super rah-rah-hooray about overweight neckbeards in dresses/rainbow hair in the ladies' room. It's no wonder that they protect their safe space online at all cost.

It's still stunning that a community that is supposedly so oppressed has somehow amassed the amount of power and social capital to ''cancel'' those who disagree. I don't think I've seen even racists taken down with such chutzpah as a person who says women are biological females get.
