ill just stick to the old vpn/proxychain method .. works best. For almost 2 decades .. why fix it if it ain't broken ?

The problem is the old generation is quickly getting older. A younger generation values monetization and ease of use over flexibility and investing time in learning how to make something work. Unless you are willing to maintain some software yourself, it will be likely that you will be unable to find it, or in some cases use it, as maintainers remove software from public access. Regardless, having another choice is good for everyone.

Until you want anonymity AND encryption.

If you just want secure browsing, wireguard is faster, it's codebase is smaller as well.

But there's a lot of questions about anonymity using wireguard, since it isn't generally for that.

Could you provide more info about this? I am interested in knowing how OpenVPN is more anonymous than Wireguard since I have been using Wireguard more lately.

The problem are the endpoints. You can check out the code and the issues to get further involved. Here is a link that explains some plus/minus in fairly thorough yet not too technical way:

That being said, there is a lot to be excited about with it. I took a class long time ago from Dan Bernstein who is working on many of the encryption protocols and methods that wireguard will employ, and he is a really smart dude.

I've also recently read people using it in apps like tailscale (a mesh wireguard vpn but it unfortunatley depends on 3rd party authentication). So we'll see. Ultimately, having more choice is always a good thing.
