“The Vvitch” is my fave. Anyone know anything with a similar feel? Artsy psychological horror I guess. “Hereditary” was way too much violence and shock factor for me.

I'm not really good at recommending movies, but I will try:

There's a lot of "elevated" horror movies around right now, especially from studio A24, that you might want to look into. They almost always have similar pacing to The VVitch, which I liked, but I dislike most of them personally. Still, you might want to check out a ranking list around the internet.

For recent-ish movies, I'd recommend Annihilation (not horror but some scary parts), It Follows, and Black Swan.

If you want something that's folksy like The VVitch, then The Wicker Man (70s version, not Nic Cage remake), which is basically Midsommar but without all the gore that you didn't like about Hereditary, though it's goofy in parts and not super scary.

For my weirdo recommendations, I like:

Deep Red (Italian giallo murder mystery that plays a lot with memory),

Pulse (aka Ikiru - the Japanese one that's a metaphor for the internet isolating all of us, very confusing but sad and effective - the American remake is horrible),

Perfect Blue (not really horror, but the whole thing revolves around the psychology of identity and is scary in its own way),

I Walked with a Zombie (movie from the 1940s about voodoo).

I LOVE It Follows. I think about it all the time. Which movie on your list would you recommend I prioritize if I liked that?

It Follows is really unique and none of the other movies are really all that much like it (I kind of focused on the "arty and psychological" part of her request and my list is all over the place, which is why I'm not good at this kind of thing - I make connections that only make sense to me).

If I were to make a list of recommendations based on It Follows, I'd probably go with The Guest, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, or House of the Devil - all relatively recent, stylish, effective and genre-heavy like It Follows was. The Guest is the best of those 3 (and it has the same actress as It Follows), imo, though it is more of a thriller than a horror so I would not expect to find it scary.
