We never had to build up our own masculinity from nothing- bitch, LMFAO. I watched dudes who hit puberty late get their noses broken at basketball practice. Then they got laughed at at prom time. No. It’s not that trans men are a threat to our masculinity. It’s that trans men are a threat to human understanding of biology, to reason, to common sense, to public discourse, to freedom of speech, to freedom of assembly, and to the childhoods and adolescence of impressionable minors, particularly young girls with mental health problems.

I just found out that my 16 year old cousin is now a transman. She was never even the slightest bit of a tomboy but now she's supposedly really a guy. She is the oldest girl in a family who's parents are extremely acrimoniously divorced which is almost certainly at the root of this.

I don't fault parents who get a divorce if their marriage is damaged beyond repair. But what were the characteristics of those parents' divorce. Did they break up because of reasons that were fixable? Were one of the parents abusive to the other or mutually abusive? Did one parent get sole custody of the children?

Either way, your cousin is fucked if she does not grow out of this phase on time.

Divorced parents is very often the healthier life for kids, but only if one or both of the parents is genuinely committed to making sure that the kids needs are prioritised over their anger. That's not the case here, their divorce is about as bad as you can imagine really and will likely be causing them all sorts of emotional damage. My cousin was honestly ripe to fall into this fucking cult. I was talking to my mum about it after we found out and she's hoping that it's only a social transition, and obviously that would be better, but there seems to be plenty of evidence appearing to show that socially transitioning kids is damaging in and of itself. I hope she hasn't/won't go down the medication route but I'm not optimistic.

This is the 4th woman/girl in my life that has transed to some degree in 2022. Two acquaintances, (who are both scheduled for mastectomy soon), a fairly close friend and now my cousin. I have another, slightly older cousin who I also worry about getting sucked into this, because she's always been very gender non-conforming and has friends who are starting to trans. It feels like I'm living in a sick joke.

You have it worse than me. I only know two trans people, both male. One acquaintance who already transed before I met him. Another who is a neighbour whom I rarely interact with, yet my sister is very close to him. I hope that's all I know.

Yeah I think a lot of cis men never really had to grapple with their masculinity it's never been something they earned but something they were born into and as a result the idea that you can be a man and actively choose that for yourself, build your own masculinity from the ground, up - it calls theirs into question because they never did that like we do over and over again even as people constantly pick flaws and poke holes at our masculinities

Well, that's one FTM milestone... no period.
